Elisha Heals a Syrian General

5:1 Now Naaman, the commander of the king of Syria’s army, was esteemed and respected by his master, ¹  for through him the Lord had given Syria military victories. But this great warrior had a skin disease. ²

6:7 He said, “Lift it out.” So he reached out his hand and grabbed it.

7:17 Now the king had placed the officer who was his right-hand man ³  at the city gate. When the people rushed out, they trampled him to death in the gate. ⁴  This fulfilled the prophet’s word which he had spoken when the king tried to arrest him. ⁵

8:8 So the king told Hazael, “Take a gift ⁶  and go visit the prophet. Request from him an oracle from the Lord. Ask him, ⁷  ‘Will I recover from this sickness?’”

12:9 Jehoiada the priest took a chest and drilled a hole in its lid. He placed it on the right side of the altar near the entrance of ⁸  the Lord’s temple. The priests who guarded the entrance would put into it all the silver brought to the Lord’s temple.

18:17 The king of Assyria sent his commanding general, the chief eunuch, and the chief adviser ⁹  from Lachish to King Hezekiah in Jerusalem, ¹⁰  along with a large army. They went up and arrived at Jerusalem. They went ¹¹  and stood at the conduit of the upper pool which is located on the road to the field where they wash and dry cloth. ¹²

19:4 Perhaps the Lord your God will hear all these things the chief adviser has spoken on behalf of his master, the king of Assyria, who sent him to taunt the living God. ¹³  When the Lord your God hears, perhaps he will punish him for the things he has said. ¹⁴  So pray for this remnant that remains.’” ¹⁵

23:16 When Josiah turned around, he saw the tombs there on the hill. So he ordered the bones from the tombs to be brought; ¹⁷  he burned them on the altar and defiled it. This fulfilled the Lord’s announcement made by the prophet while Jeroboam stood by the altar during a festival. King Josiah ¹⁸  turned and saw the grave of the prophet who had foretold this. ¹⁹

Then he turned and saw the grave of the man of God [who proclaimed these words].” The extra material attested in the LXX was probably accidentally omitted in the Hebrew tradition when a scribe’s eye jumped from the first occurrence of the phrase “man of God” (which appears right before the extra material) and the second occurrence of the phrase (which appears at the end of the extra material).
