[5:1]  1 tn Heb “was a great man before his master and lifted up with respect to the face.”

[5:1]  2 tn For a discussion of מְצֹרָע (mÿtsora’), traditionally translated “leprous,” see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 63. Naaman probably had a skin disorder of some type, not leprosy/Hansen’s disease.

[7:17]  3 tn Heb “the officer on whose hand he leans.”

[7:17]  4 tn Heb “and the people trampled him in the gate and he died.”

[7:17]  5 tn Heb “just as the man of God had spoken, [the word] which he spoke when the king came down to him.”

[8:8]  6 tn The Hebrew text also has “in your hand.”

[8:8]  7 tn Heb “Inquire of the Lord through him, saying.”

[12:9]  8 tn Heb “on the right side of the altar as a man enters.”

[18:17]  9 sn For a discussion of these titles see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 229-30.

[18:17]  10 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[18:17]  11 tn Heb “and they went up and came.”

[18:17]  12 tn Heb “the field of the washer.”

[19:4]  13 tn Heb “all the words of the chief adviser whom his master, the king of Assyria, sent to taunt the living God.”

[19:4]  14 tn Heb “and rebuke the words which the Lord your God hears.”

[19:4]  15 tn Heb “and lift up a prayer on behalf of the remnant that is found.”

[21:20]  16 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[23:16]  17 tn Heb “and he sent and took the bones from the tombs.”

[23:16]  18 tn Heb “the king”; this has been specified as “King Josiah” in the translation for clarity (cf. TEV, CEV, NLT).

[23:16]  19 tc The MT is much shorter than this. It reads, “according to the word of the Lord which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words.” The LXX has a much longer text at this point. It reads: “[which was proclaimed by the man of God] while Jeroboam stood by the altar at a celebration. Then he turned and saw the grave of the man of God [who proclaimed these words].” The extra material attested in the LXX was probably accidentally omitted in the Hebrew tradition when a scribe’s eye jumped from the first occurrence of the phrase “man of God” (which appears right before the extra material) and the second occurrence of the phrase (which appears at the end of the extra material).

[23:16]  sn This recalls the prophecy recorded in 1 Kgs 13:2.

[24:9]  20 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[24:19]  21 tn Heb “in the eyes of.”

[24:19]  22 tn Heb “according to all which Jehoiakim had done.”
